Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCD)

Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCD)
As a leading manufacturer and supplier of Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCDs) worldwide, AGC Instruments is able to advise and design a suitable configuration should it not be standard.
The Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) is simple in construction, inexpensive yet rugged, universal, has excellent sensitivity and is relatively linear through a wide range. In its use, the sample is not destructed. It is one of the most widely used detectors in the world today.

The Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) comprises of a metallic block which contains a cavity through which gas flows. Positioned in this gas flow are heated elements (Hot Wire Filaments or Thermistors). As each gas has a known thermal conductivity, the method of difference in these thermal conductivities is the principal upon which it is based. For this method, two heated elements in two cavities are required. In Chromatography applications, the carrier gas passes through one cavity and the sample after being passed through the column flows through the second cavity. For Process applications a Reference (or Span) Gas and Sample Gas are used.

Gas Leak Detectors

Gas Leak Detectors
About the Mini Gas Leak Detector
AGC Instruments offers the Mini Gas Leak Detector (Model 21-072) which will easily find any gas that is leaking from a pressurised system. By using a thermal conductivity detector, this instrument will respond with speed to any gas mixture that has a thermal conductivity different to air.

With a high signal to noise ratio, via amplification we are able to deliver a maximum usable sensitivity. Helium leaks of 1 x 10-5 cc/sec are easily detected. Other gases include Refrigerant leaks of 1.1 x 10-4 cc/sec and Argon leaks of 1.0 x 10-4 cc/sec.

Principle of Operation
The probe is passed over the area to be checked, a sample is drawn in automatically into the thermal conductivity detector. A signal is registered on the meter when a leak is detected.

This clean and easy to use system ensures that no contamination is left that traditionally is caused when using a soap solution. By using the probe, it is easy to reach difficult locations within a system. The probe is small enough to find the exact location of a leak.

Hot Wire Filaments & Thermistors

Hot Wire Filaments & Thermistors

About Hot Wire Filaments & Thermistors
AGC Instruments is a leading supplier of Hot Wire Filaments, Thermistors and Thermal Conductivity Detectors (TCD) to leading Instrument manufacturers of Gas Chromatographs and Gas Analysers Worldwide.

Hot Wire Filaments
A choice of materials is available depending on the application in question. The choice includes: Gold-Sheathed Tungsten (AuW), Tungsten (W), Rhenium-Tungsten (WX), Nickel (Ni) and Nickel Alloy.
Each type has specific characteristics such as corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, catalytic reactions and sensitivity for use which are dependent on the application required.

Hot Wire Filaments required for corrosive applications are best suited to be manufactured in Gold-sheathed tungsten, with special resistance to Oxygen. The Filaments are sold as matched pairs with standard 50mm (2”) leads or at lengths more suited to the customer’s requirement.

Thermistors
The Thermistor is a thermally sensitive resistor that has a high negative coefficient of resistance. They are manufactured from a mixture of the oxides of Manganese, Nickel and Cobalt. They are sintered in an oxidising atmosphere in the form of small beads (0.012” dia.). A covering of glass is then placed over the bead to protect it from further oxidation and reduction.

The characteristic of thermistors is such that they can be operated at relatively low operating temperatures, they have high sensitivity and are suitable for sub-ambient temperatures.

Customised Hot Wire Filaments
AGC Instruments can customise to a customer specific requirement. We can manufacture Hot Wire Filaments to meet your exact requirement or to best suit your needs.

Chromatography Software

TrendVision Chromatography Software

TrendVision Chromatography Software is a complete Chromatography Integration package that provides the Gas Chromatograph Operator with all the tools needed to interpret the Data and Results from the Chromatograph. It integrates all the instrument control, data handling, display, reporting and export functions needed in the usual industrial and laboratory environment into one package. The extended capabilities enable all Methods to be stored with valve timings to so that the GC can operate in an automatic mode. Up to four GC channels are available and allow data from up to eight continuous Gas Analysers to be displayed within the Software. This means that third party equipment such as Moisture, O2 and CO2 analyser results can be displayed beside the data from the GC. This, in turn, provides the Operator with meaningful information that can be transmitted back to the Control Room or DCS if needed.
TrendVision provides a unified chromatography method whereby all settings are contained in a single method, including event tables, calibration tables and integration settings. In addition, this software enables our GC systems to run in a fully unattended mode. It can also take control of the AGC Instruments GC systems and automatically perform the required analysis using the pre-programmed methods. This is coupled with the ability to send results back to a DCS or control room using fieldbus protocols or traditional 4-20 mA signalling. If On-Line operation is not required then the software runs equally well in its Stand-Alone mode with the same functionality and ease of use.
TrendVision PLUS is the most recent release of the well recognised Chromatography Data Capture Software from AGC Instruments. Rugged industrial level modular and scalable hardware is used with an Embedded Windows Operating System which is easy to use and set up. Once your system is installed, usage in the daily environment is very easy with minimal training required. It encompasses all the important functions required in this demanding gas analysis environment, enabling many standard features to be easily applied with the end products of excellent chromatography results and straightforward reporting.

Trace N2 Gas Analyser

Trace Nitrogen Gas Analysers

About:
The AGC Series 100 SED is engineered for the continuous monitoring of N2 in Ar or N2 in He.
Its N2 specific detector has been derived from our extremely successful High Frequency Argon Discharge Detector (ADD) system, the Series 100 HF-ADD Gas Analyser.

AGC Instruments has been providing this system configuration for several years to the gas manufacturing companies and especially to argon and helium specific plants throughout the world.

Principal:
The emission wavelength intensity of the Nitrogen molecule is selected to determine the trace amount of Nitrogen in Argon or Helium Matrix Gas. The response is proportional to the nitrogen concentration in low ppb to high ppm range.

Technique:
Using a spectral emission technique, a unique quartz ionisation chamber is utilised in which the sample gas is ionised by a high frequency tuned oscillator with the resultant emission wavelength intensity of the nitrogen
component is directed through a narrow band pass filter and is detected via a photomultiplier tube.

About the 50 Series
The newest model of the legendary Binary Stream Gas Analyser from AGC Instruments is used to measure N2, H2, He, CO2, Ar or other gases in Binary gas mixtures or pure gases. We monitor impurities in a major gas based on the difference of thermal conductivities.

Using hotwire or thermistor elements, an analyser which has accuracy and sensitivity, coupled with a robust platform is achieved with a response time of < 30 second (T90). To interface with the analyser is via the new 5.7” QVGA LCD touch screen display, where all status, alarm conditions, diagnostics and direct reading of results are available with ease.

Using a high quality flow detection devices with Alarms, the gas flows are measured & displayed to the LCD display ensuring accuracy and stability to allow great confidence in all results.

The 50 Series model contains a temperature regulated TCD which allows continuous monitoring of the gas stream. Through the use of solenoid valves, drift has been eliminated as a constant reference to Zero Gas is utilised for greater accuracy. Using temperature control of the measuring sensor, excellent stability is guaranteed with <1% drift over a 24 hour period.

Principle of Operation
The Detector consists of an electrically heated hotwire (or thermistor) element in a temperature regulated metal housing.
